Optical Fiber Network

INTRO

Worldwide, economic and social development is becoming increasingly dependent on fiber optic networks.

With centers of excellence spread across the world, Prysmian is responding to this demand by introducing fiber optic cable technology that delivers information wherever it is needed. Thanks to these networks, communities, countries, and continents are now more connected than ever.

With outstanding locations in Italy, the Netherlands, and France, as well as five production sites worldwide, Prysmian is a leading manufacturer of the core component of every type of optical cable: optical fiber.

OVERVIEW

Fast, reliable, and unmatched fiber optic networks form the foundation for the future of communication.

We develop technology that delivers information at optimal speed, creates new opportunities for industries, and connects communities.

But speed is only one aspect. To accelerate connectivity everywhere, we also set new standards in terms of low latency, reliability, and the management of ever-growing amounts of data. Our range of single-mode, multimode, and specialized optical fibers is designed for every purpose. With expertise centers in Italy, the Netherlands, and France, as well as five production sites worldwide, we are a global leader in fiber optic manufacturing. We operate at the absolute peak of speed and reliability.

A Closer Look: Optical Fiber

Prysmian’s Optical Fibre Division has a 30-year history of world-leading service to the telecoms industry. We provide innovative products for the full range of applications, spanning long-haul, metropolitan, access, FTTx, and premises applications.

When it comes to premium and cutting-edge cables, our modeling and design expertise, together with our technology and production processes, is reflected in a complete portfolio of four mainstream single-mode optical fibre types:

  • Broadly spread G.652 series
  • Submarine and ultra long-haul G.654 series
  • Innovative long distance G.655/G.656 non-zero dispersion shifted fibres (NZDSF) series
  • For all our fibre types, Prysmian Group delivers a superior level of dedicated customer service, support and delivery options.
  • The G.657 series – bend-insensitive optical fibres, critical for FTTx rollouts.

Prysmian’s multimode optical fibres for the Datacom, enterprises and premises cable industries are based on our Plasma-Activated Chemical Vapour Deposition Process (PCVD), acknowledged worldwide as offering the best core-profile accuracy in multimode fibres.

The result is a complete portfolio covering the full range of application standards, from OM1 and OM2 optical fibres, right up to high-data-rate OM3 and OM4. For all our fibre types, Prysmian delivers a superior level of dedicated customer service, support and delivery options.

All multimode optical fibres produced by Prysmian are coated with DLPC9 coating to significantly reduce microbending. Our products cover Local Access Networks (LANs), data centres and server farms, central offices, and Storage Area Networks (SANs).

DrakaElite is Prysmian's Specialty Fibre suite, dedicated to the specialty market segment, with a comprehensive product range offering solutions, and active and passive components for the medical, marine, Oil & Gas, and telecoms sectors.

With more than two decades of experience in the field of optical fibre technologies, a unique proprietary process, and an extended patent portfolio, DrakaElite offers an extensive number of solutions that exceed the requirements of your applications or your market.

We’re combining state-of the-art glass technology with advanced coating and buffer technology in an industrialised manner, paving the way towards unprecedented performances and new applications.

DrakaElite’s rods and tubes are produced using Draka’s proprietary Plasma-Activated Chemical Vapor Deposition (PCVD) manufacturing process. This innovative process allows for very precise index profiles and pure material compositions.

In addition, our specialised machinery and processes are used for manufacturing the fibres supplied to the high-demand mass market that is Telecoms and Datacoms.

DrakaElite’s rods and tubes benefit from the advantages of a fully industrialised platform, with stringent and exceptional quality control.

FOCUS ON / SINGLE MODE FIBRES

BendBrightXS 180um

A single-mode optical fiber that drastically reduces cable diameters for most OSP cable designs, increases fiber density in ducts, and decreases the size and weight of aerial cables. Thanks to its proprietary BendBrightXS technology, Prysmian has reached a new milestone in fiber miniaturization. BendBrightXS 180 µm enables significantly reduced cable dimensions and delivers a record-breaking cable density in the industry.

FOCUS ON / MULTI MODE FIBRES

WideCap Multimode Fibre

WideCap is a multimode system that delivers OM4 performance within the wavelength window of 850-950 nm, providing an affordable and energy-efficient solution for data center networks.
