Prysmian Achieves 2024 EV Transport Goals and Sets Ambitious Targets for 2025

Prysmian has successfully achieved its 2024 goal of transporting an average of 4,000 tons of Draka and Prysmian cables per month using electric vehicles (EVs). This milestone was reached through the use of a DAF electric truck, provided by its partner Oegema, and supplemented by a Volvo EV truck to ensure consistent performance. This initiative resulted in a significant reduction of 115,000 kg of CO2 emissions over the year.

Henk-Jan Holtrop, Warehouse Manager at Prysmian's Emmen factory, expressed pride in the company's leadership in sustainability:

“We as Prysmian are leaders in sustainability, also confirmed by the global sustainability index. Due to this, we set ourselves targets on EV transport in which we want to be the leader, ahead of others in this development. For 2024, we succeeded, and for 2025, we are challenging ourselves and our forwarder to extend EV transport to customers. The expectation for 2025 is also that we will achieve our new EV targets.”

Raising the Bar for 2025

Building on its success, Prysmian has set a new goal for 2025: to transport an average of 6,000 tons of cables per month using EV’s. This ambitious target represents a 50% increase in EV transport capacity and will require both its EV trucks to be operational daily. Achieving this goal is expected to save an additional 150,000 kg of CO2 emissions in 2025.

Erwin Jacobs, a partner at Oegema, highlighted the transition from the trial phase to a more permanent collaboration:

“We will come out from a trial phase of the EV transportation to a collaboration phase that becomes now our normal.”

Scaling Up for a Sustainable Future

With the addition of a second EV truck, Prysmian and Oegema are ready to scale up their operations and continue leading the cable industry in sustainable transport solutions. The companies are committed to maintaining their momentum and setting new standards for environmental responsibility. This is all part of the Prysmian Zero Emission Roadmap for 2050, to reach 100% emission free transport by 2050:
