Sustainability in the Construction Industry
The National Environmental Database acts as the platform where all EPDs are shared. By analysing the life cycle of the products, the environmental impact is quantified and mapped, from resource use to energy consumption and waste streams.
An Important Step to Sustainability
"It is crucial that the construction industry can rely on standardised methods for assessing the environmental performance of construction products," said Yvonne Steeds, Marketing Director of Draka. "By adding our EPDs to the National Environmental Database, we enable professionals to make informed choices that meet not only their technical requirements, but also their sustainability goals."
Responsible product selection
The inclusion of Draka's EPDs in the National Environmental Database is the result of a thorough Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study in which the environmental impact of these products was analyzed and verified. This detailed information enables installers to make well-informed product comparisons and to select products that have the least environmental impact, thus contributing to a more sustainable construction industry.
With this step, Draka is taking an important step towards a greener future for the construction and installation industry, in which sustainability and environmental friendliness are key.
About the National Environmental Database (NMD)
The National Environmental Database (NMD) is a central source of information on the environmental impact of building materials and products in the Netherlands. It provides data on energy use, CO2 emissions, and resource use, among other things, enabling professionals to make more sustainable choices when designing and constructing buildings and infrastructure.
What is an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardized document that provides objective information about the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle, from raw material extraction to waste disposal. EPDs help compare environmental performance and make more sustainable decisions in various sectors, such as construction, industrial, and consumer goods.
