Draka is now also making the most popular installation cable more sustainable.
Draka takes a big step in making cables more sustainable. Starting in July, the most commonly used installation cable will also be available in a more sustainable variant. VULT E-LINE is an ecologically responsible power cable for low-voltage installations. The cable performs just as well as the regular VULT but has a much lower CO2 footprint. VULT E-LINE is widely applicable, for building installations, residential construction, and industrial installations. As a result, every installer can now reduce the ecological footprint of their installations.
For the new VULT installation cable, Draka uses 100% recycled copper and instead of fossil fuels, Draka incorporates renewable, plant-based materials into the insulation.
This innovation reduces reliance on finite resources and lowers the carbon footprint of production. Complemented by logistical measures (a cardboard package without plastic tape, 75% less plastic wrapping for pallets, and emission-free transport to its wholesale partners), Draka achieves a significant CO2 saving. This saving varies by type (3G1.5, 5G1.5, 3G2.5, or 5G2.5) and, according to its own calculations, is up to 19 percent. The final reduction will be definitively recorded in an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), which will be published shortly after the launch of VULT E-LINE.
Prysmian Eco Cable Label
VULT E-LINE is one of the first cable products with the Prysmian Eco Cable label. This labeling system, developed by Prysmian, classifies the environmental impact, from cradle to gate, based on a large number of measurable criteria. Thanks to a successful audit of the cable factory in Emmen, this procedure is now also recognized by Bureau Veritas. Only products with a relatively favorable, combined score on these criteria receive the Prysmian Eco Cable label.
Complete Range E-LINE
Within the E-LINE portfolio of more sustainable cable products with a reduced environmental impact, VULT E-LINE is the latest addition.
“By once again significantly enhancing the sustainability of a standard article in terms of production and logistics, we demonstrate how much we, as a pioneer, want to stimulate the entire construction and installation sector to build more sustainably,” says Toine Verschuur, Commercial Director Electrification & Digitalisation of parent company Prysmian.
Draka adds new E-LINE types every year to ultimately offer installers a complete range of more sustainable cable solutions for low-voltage installations.
