Schoonderbeek proves in Hyde Park Potential of sustainable cabling
The demand for social housing is huge. As a result, sustainable ambitions are in danger of being squeezed. But not for Schoonderbeek Installatiegroep. It provides a complete residential block (Hyde Park block 27) with 124 homes completely with VD E-LINE from Draka. A good choice, because this durable cable has the same quality and is just as pullable as regular VD wire.
The choice for VD E-LINE was made in an (environmentally) conscious way, according to Antoon van Rooijen of Schoonderbeek Installatiegroep. "We do a lot in the field of sustainability, both within our company and on a project basis." "That's why we're always curious to see what Draka is doing in that area. During a regular meeting with them, VD E-LINE came up and we decided to gain experience with it ourselves."
Large-scale pilot
Schoonderbeek doesn't like to do things by halves ("If we say yes, we'll go for it") and immediately chose a large-scale project as a pilot. Hyde Park block 27 is part of the new Hyde Park district to be built on the Planetenweg in Hoofddorp. The residential block of 9,500 m2 GFA includes 124 social rental apartments and two commercial spaces. The owner is housing corporation Ymere, which commissioned construction company De Vries en Verburg for the realization. From Schoonderbeek Installatiegroep, the installation work is realized by Schoonderbeek Installatie B.V. and (sister company) Installatiebureau Ekelschot B.V.
Over 130 km Draka VD E-LINE
Schoonderbeek's ambition is also evident from the fact that it itself chose to use VD E-LINE; In terms of cabling, there were no specification requirements. "Draka is one of our preferred suppliers," says Van Rooijen. This made it easier to choose the environmentally friendly cable. The structural work of the 12-storey building is now halfway through and Schoonderbeek has already received more than 136 km of VD E-LINE (1.5 and 2.5 mm2) via the Technische Unie.
Smooth processing
VD E-LINE is easy to process in practice, according to the technicians at the construction site. Their experience is one of the determining factors within the family business to (continue to) apply new products. "Because VD E-LINE is smoother than ordinary VD wire, the technicians can pull the cable through a tube more easily." That time saving can make up for the price difference. As far as Schoonderbeek is concerned, the pilot has already been successful and the way is open to apply VD E-LINE in other regular housing projects as well.
Good cooperation
Adequate planning is crucial for the installation company. "If a delivery is postponed, the project can run considerably and drag other projects with it. That's why we monitor our planning well and flexibly, but without compromising on quality." In that respect, Hyde Park block 27 is progressing according to plan. "The communication between the construction partners is good and everyone helps each other." This collaboration is in line with the pursuit of long-term relationships, another quality of the 'pur sang' family business.
Draka favorite
Draka is such a long-term relationship of Schoonderbeek and the project experience with VD E-LINE underlines its position as preferred suppplier.
