Interactive introduction to innovative technologies and cable production
Interactief kennismaken met innovatieve technologieën én kabelproductie.
On the site of its largest cable factory, in Emmen, Draka has opened a unique, multifunctional center: Experience Center Connect. In the centre, business relations can be informed and inspired about the innovative world of (Draka) cables. Visitors also have access to the impressive factory of the world's largest cable manufacturer.
Experience Center Connect is a meeting place for all Draka stakeholders. "Our clients are visiting fewer and fewer trade fairs, but they do want to stay up to date with regulations, innovations and new technologies," says marketing manager Yvonne Steeds. "Here we can connect (potential) customers as well as suppliers, schools and organizations with Draka in an inspiring and interactive way. In addition, it is a hub for employees from across our Prysmian organization to meet each other. This is what sets it apart from our smaller and more product-oriented Prysmian experience centers in France, Romania and Brazil."
Multifonctional design
The building layout reflects the multifunctional design of Experience Center Connect. On the site of the former canteen of Draka Emmen there is now a reception area (125m2) with overflow to the canteen (175 m2) and a Co-work area (65m2). Next to it is the auditorium (65 m2) with its grandstand where training sessions and seminars for up to 70 people can take place. At its heart is the Life Experience Center, an exhibition space (125 m2) with digital presentations and the entire spectrum of cable products as well as interactive demonstrations to discover cable applications for yourself.
Wow effect
Draka wants to combine knowledge transfer and fun to inspire. This happens not only in the Experience Center, but throughout the building and beyond. Instead of a static showroom, Draka aims to create wow effects by showing how many things work thanks to cables. For example, there are visible wire ducts on the 4.5-metre-high ceilings throughout the building and the field setup with solar panels has an openwork distribution box that shows the cable connections.
In order to achieve as much experience as possible, a KNX system with control equipment from ABB has been installed. Among other things, this system automatically provides lighting when starting/stopping presentations in the auditorium and the presence-controlled opening/closing of the entrance doors and blinds. Draka will also be demonstrating its PRY-CAM HOME technology for home automation.
Sustainability
Draka shows its entire spectrum of cable solutions in and around Connect. Sustainability is one of the main themes. For example, there are PV panels for the energy supply of the building and heat pumps with heat recovery in cooling and heating. To optimize lighting and reduce energy consumption, energy-efficient Signify LED luminaires with built-in sensors are linked to each other via a smart management system. There will also be ABB charging stations for electric cars this spring. Of course, Draka also uses its own cables, such as the robust Tecsun cable for PV power supply systems.
Digitisation
Digitalization is another key theme in Connect. First of all, Draka shows cable solutions that make it possible to communicate more and faster data, including the latest data cables. In addition, she will be showcasing technical innovations such as the RFID chip that is incorporated into medium and high-voltage cables during production. Another application is the smart reel of which, thanks to a built-in GPS tracker, the location and remaining amount of cable can be read remotely, for example to order in time (Alesea IoT solution). Draka also shows its own digital tools, such as the handy Cable App to make smart cable calculations. Digitalization has many facets and Draka will keep its ambitions and progress in this area up to date in Connect.
