Draka and 2BA make environmental data of cables accessible to the installation industry

The demand for reliable environmental data is growing rapidly. Developments such as the energy transition, increasing sustainability requirements in tenders and new laws and regulations, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), ensure that transparency within the construction and installation sector is becoming increasingly important. Installers are also increasingly being asked the question: what is the environmental impact of the products you use?

To meet this, Draka and 2BA have started a close collaboration. Soon, the CO₂ values of Draka products for which an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is available will be included in the 2BA database as standard. Thanks to this integration, relevant environmental data becomes widely accessible and easy to use within common design, calculation and reporting systems.

The role of 2BA in the sector

2BA manages the central data pool for the installation industry in the Netherlands. In this database, product, trade and logistics data of millions of technical articles are collected and structured. By making this information available through standardized formats, 2BA helps companies in the chain to work more efficiently, accurately and transparently.

With the addition of EHR data, it is now also possible to make the environmental performance of products part of technical and financial project calculations in a structured way.

What does this mean for you as an installer?

As an installer, you get direct access to up-to-date and objective environmental data from Draka cables, without any additional searching or manual entry. This information can be used immediately when drawing up reports, meeting sustainability requirements and substantiating material choices for clients.

The data is currently mainly intended for reporting purposes, for example for MPG calculations or CO₂ performance reports. Although the data is still less suitable for direct product comparisons, this initiative is an important first step towards full transparency in the chain.

Progress through collaboration

Draka, part of Prysmian, is the first cable manufacturer to make this environmental data available via 2BA. This initiative aligns with Prysmian's global sustainability goals. The group has committed to Net Zero by 2035, not only for its own production processes (scope 1 and 2), but also for the entire value chain (scope 3).

According to Toine Verschuur, Netherlands Electrification Director at Prysmian, the collaboration with 2BA is an important step forward. "By actively unlocking environmental data and making it widely available, we support installers in their work and contribute to a future-proof and responsible sector. Draka and 2BA are taking a concrete step towards more insight, better choices and joint progress."
