INTRODUCING

P-LASER

Prysmian offers the first fully recyclable and low-impact MV-cable insulation in the world.

P-Laser is a fully eco-friendly cable, manufactured using thermoplastic materials. It’s a recyclable solution that contributes to our customers’ sustainability work and drives added value for their business. 

The production process of this Medium Voltage Cable utilises ‘zero-gas’ technology, reducing CO2 emissions by around 1 tonne/km. 

Degassing is no longer required and its use of thermoplastics means a more efficient, fully integrated production process from start to finish.

HPTE

P-laser cables use HPTE (High Performance Thermoplastic Elastomer) insulation. It is PP based, characterized by a high flexibility, good thermo-mechanical properties, and excellent electrical behavior. 

The P-Laser insulation has a higher resistance towards developing water trees, cavities, and crystallization compared to XLPE . And even at very low temperatures, down to -25ºC, the HPTE material does have  a breakage extension of 300%.

HPTE thermoplastics also offers several other advantages:

  • Firstly: production is cleaner as a chemical process, the so-called crosslinking, is omitted. 
  • Secondly: P-Laser cables per mm of insulation are electrically stronger. 
  • Lastly: HPTE insulation is 100% recyclable after use.

P-LASER SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA

A major benefit of P-Laser insulation is that it doesn't require any crosslinking. This reduces the energy consumption of the P-laser manufacturing process, and eliminates the emissions of greenhouse gas-emissions associated with the XLPE cross linking process.Therefore, a cable with P-Laser insulation has a reduced CO2eq product footprint. Improved product circularity being thermoplastic instead of being crosslinked, the P-laser insulation is 100% recyclable at end of life. This is improving the circularity of this cable.

MADE IN HOLLAND, DELIVERED WORLDWIDE

Today, P-Laser is produced in the Netherlands for 10-52 kV, while 110 kV, 150 kV, 320 kV, 525 kV and 600 kV are produced in France and Italy.

In 2020, Prysmian had delivered almost 50,000 kilometers of MV P-Laser worldwide, with a total climate saving of more than 1,100 tons of CO2 Discharge. Additionally, 500kg of high-quality plastics can be recovered from every kilometre of P-Laser cable.
